RZR & UTV Physical Damage Insurance
Physical damage coverage protects the machine itself — repairing or replacing your RZR, UTV, or side-by-side after a collision, rollover, theft, or weather event.
Protecting the Machine, Not Just the Liability Side
Liability coverage protects other people. Physical damage coverage protects your investment. If you worry about theft, lightning, flood, windstorm, hail, or fire, you need physical damage coverage — and if you have a loan on your RZR, your lender almost certainly requires it as a condition of financing.
Physical damage insurance for UTVs typically splits into two halves, and most riders carry both together:
Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive responds to damage that isn't caused by a collision — the "everything else" bucket:
- Theft — your machine or trailer is stolen from your property, a trailhead, or a staging area
- Fire — mechanical fire, wildfire, or fire from another source
- Flood, windstorm & hail — weather events that damage the machine while parked or stored
- Lightning — direct strikes and electrical-system damage
- Vandalism — intentional damage by a third party
Collision Coverage
Collision responds to impact damage regardless of fault — hitting a rock, tree, another vehicle, or rolling the machine on the trail. Rollovers are one of the single most common and most expensive UTV losses; a hard rollover can total a machine worth $20,000-$40,000+ in seconds, and collision coverage is what gets you back on the trail instead of absorbing that loss yourself.
Deductibles & Valuation
You choose your deductible — lower deductibles mean higher premiums, higher deductibles mean lower premiums. We'll help you find the balance that fits your budget. Valuation matters just as much as the deductible: a standard actual-cash-value policy pays depreciated value at time of loss, while an agreed value policy (see our dedicated agreed value coverage) locks in a set payout regardless of depreciation — often the better call for a well-maintained or upgraded machine.
What's Typically Not Included Automatically
Standard physical damage coverage is based on the manufacturer's stock value. If you've added a roll cage, winch, light bar, stereo, or other aftermarket parts, those upgrades usually need to be scheduled separately under accessories & modifications coverage — otherwise you could be paid out for a stock machine after a total loss on a heavily upgraded one.
How a Physical Damage Claim Actually Plays Out
After a covered loss, the typical path is straightforward: report the loss, document the damage with photos, and get an inspection scheduled — either in person or through photos, depending on severity and your carrier's process. For repairable damage, we work to get you pointed toward a shop that actually works on UTVs (not every collision shop does) and get repairs authorized quickly so you're not sitting parked for weeks. For a total loss, the payout depends on your valuation method — actual cash value or agreed value — and, if the machine is financed, the payout first satisfies any remaining loan balance before anything comes to you.
Partial Losses Are More Common Than Total Losses
Most physical damage claims aren't total losses — they're a cracked A-arm, a bent bumper, hail dents, or a fire-damaged wiring harness. Comprehensive and collision coverage responds to these smaller, more common losses just as much as the catastrophic ones, which is where the coverage earns its premium most often. A machine that sits in the elements for years will eventually face weather damage even if it never sees a serious wreck — this coverage is doing quiet work the whole time you own the machine, not just in a worst-case scenario.
Matching Your Deductible to How You Ride
Aggressive trail and dune riders who push their machines hard tend to have more frequent, smaller claims — scuffs, dents, minor mechanical damage from hard use — and often benefit from a lower deductible to make those claims worth filing. Riders who use their UTV more conservatively, for ranch work or occasional weekend trips, often do fine with a higher deductible and a lower monthly premium. There's no universally correct answer — tell us how you actually ride and we'll help you land on the right number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does physical damage coverage include my aftermarket parts?
Not automatically — standard physical damage is based on the machine's stock value. Aftermarket roll cages, winches, light bars, and other upgrades should be scheduled under accessories & modifications coverage so you're paid their full value in a loss.
What's the difference between comprehensive and collision?
Comprehensive covers non-collision losses like theft, fire, flood, hail, and lightning. Collision covers impact damage — hitting an object, another vehicle, or rolling the machine — regardless of fault.
What's Covered
- Collision damage (rollovers, impacts)
- Theft of the machine
- Fire damage
- Flood, windstorm & hail
- Lightning & electrical damage
- Vandalism
